My last post I talked about my big week that was coming up. Well guess what...it's over.
Here is a recap...
The last time I competed was a Bench Press Meet in Nov 2011. It was fun, I walked away with a National record.....but it was only a bench meet. One gym exercise that 99% of dinks in wife-beaters do at a gym. Nothing special. Now it was time for a legit full 3-lift powerlifting meet with the 100% RAW Federation. Here is my experience!
I cut weight for this, even after saying ``fuck it`` the week before. My training partner Jason Howes was competing and cutting weight also. I was cutting to 275 down from 284. He was cutting from 209 to 198. I can tell you from what I witnessed is that me being fatter makes it easier to lose water weight, haha We started Wednesday with a super hydration day...drinking as much water possible, until I was almost sick. Thursday was average water intake but no carbs at all. Friday was minimal water and no carbs once again. I was on the scale at my work and every few hrs the pounds were dropping quickly.
Jay picked me up at 4pm Friday so we could drive up to Scarborough and weigh-in. I thought he was joking when he said we`d be driving with the heat cranked and wearing `long-johns`.` Nope. He needed a couple more pounds to drop in the next 2 hour drive. I didn`t really think much of Jay veering all over the road since we were talking quite a bit....maybe he just got distracted. When he stopped responding and staring blankly was when I wondered if he should be driving, hahahaha
Anyways, we made it to the hotel, weighed in (I was 272 and Jay made it by .5lbs) and started rehydrating. I packed away 5 litres of fluid (50/50 gatorade-water mix), Pedialyte, 2 chocolate bars, one big bag of salt n vinegar chips, 3 McChickens, small fry and 2 Dutch apple cinnamon bagels. Bedtime.
The next day I woke up and weighed 282lbs! I felt great....my first weight cut/rehydrate was a success. Jay was good to go as well.
We drove up and weren't supposed to lift until 12:30pm....ish. Things were running behind a little and we didn't get going until 1:30pm. I didn't care since it gave me time to relax and check out the other lifters.
Once the lifting began there isn't much to write about. It went smoothly and I went 6 for 9. Not perfect but hey, my first full meet. I finished with a 474lbs squat, 358.6lbs bench press and a 556.8lbs deadlift....... all of those lifts were good enough for Canadian records in this federation. I'll take it of course...especially since I don't train to peak for a competition like powerlifters do. I'm this strong everyday!!
That's it....I won my age/weight division and Jay won his as well. We drove home together wearing gold!
I enjoyed this meet and definitely plan to do another full meet again this year. Once I figure out (which I thought I did, but judging by the photos from this comp....NOT) my knees buckling inward then REAL numbers will fall. 525, 375, 600 is how I wanna finish my next meet.....drug free baby!
Thank you to Barry McEvoy and the 100% RAW Federation for allowing me to compete in the Ontario Championships!!
Big thanks to Jordan Foley and Paul Vaillancourt from TotalFitnessSolutions, Dr. Dave Gendron (my chiropractor) at TIHC, Bruce at RescindX and of course....... CYGEN LABS for all their support!! and thank you to those who read my ramblings online.....!! I do appreciate it...
Part Two coming soon.............
