Quick Arnprior Write Up-
So with a week's notice I signed up for a strongman comp in Arnprior ON..... awesome.
I had no intentions on competing before the Law Enforcement Games strongman in September but in one weekend I was scheduled now for 2 shows. A few things had me pull out from one in Peterborough on the Friday night so I rested for Arnprior.
At this point, I had only touched my strongman implements twice in 6 months but I'm stronger now so no worries right? Wrong.
First event- Push/Pull Medley (just like it says - 4 implements in alternating push/pull pattern)
105lbs Thick Handled DB x 2 reps, 480lbs axle deadlift x 2 reps, 225lbs log?? x 1 rep and 300lbs farmers walk deadlift
DB wasn't an issue, 480 axle deadlift x 2 reps was a PR actually and I did it beltless (2 years ago in CArp I got 2 reps with 500 using a belt) but it went smooth, 225 log was easy then I got to the 300 farmers deadlift and I was done. I forgot my belt since I never use one anymore and for some reason thought I'd give it a go without. I have hit 300 farmers before but always with a belt. Oops. Top 4 finish I think.
Second event- 600lbs Yoke fastest time
Taylor Wilson offered me his belt thankfully. Pick felt good but I haven't trained yoke in a very long time and I was very unstable and had a couple drops before the finish. Crossed the line in a somewhat disappointing time.
Car Deadlift - Pete`s damn Vibe again
0. A big fat juicy 0. 5 years running on car deadlift in competition zero`s. Need to practice on my technique, something is fucked here. Buying an apparatus for myself.
225lbs Farmers and 855 Tire??
Smoked farmers leg but can always be faster (I'm working on it) then I started to flip the tire and realized it was really fucking heavy. I didn't ask the weight until after. I flipped it 3 times and had the best time at this point. Dropped a few positions after Droeske, Darren and Dane went. I should have been more prepared and brought cleats and was more aggressive on the tire.
Atlas Stone Run- 200ish-300 stone
Screwed up again, didn't bring athletic tape for my forearms. I needed it since I was too sweaty for the tacky to stick on my arms. I only had it on my hands. Ah well.
First 4 stone popped up nicely......really nice and high. Happy about that but choked on the 300 stone without tacky. Can't complain though since "tacky doesn't lift stones, men do"
I ended up in 5th place. Not happy with the overall since I made way too many mistakes. I am seeing a glimpse of the new strength that Jordan Foley's programming has given me during events but practicing the implements is so important to fully utilize it.
Nice to get my first comp in a year out of the way. I plan on getting a few more in just for the practice by year's end. Implement practice and being mentally prepared are obstacles I will be working on. The more I competitions I do will kill the mental side of it I think and I have an awesome crew now each Sunday that train events with me. Mission accomplished.
Bodyweight now sitting between 278lbs-280lbs.
