So Far In The Vancouver 2010 Olympics....My Opinion

Well....for the last few weeks I've really been looking forward to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. I had a rough week at work at my new job, so having a couple drinks while watching the Opening Ceremonies sounded great. So.....Friday night I poured myself a drink and sat on the couch for 9pm. The first minute was good....then I think it went downhill from there. Here's what I think about the Opening Ceremonies after the first minute. I understand that native indians are a big part of our culture as Canadians. But the whole thing I think was a little much. No disrespect to the 'First Nations' but there were so many aspects of Canada not represented. As a Canadian I have to say that I've been to a few 'Native Territories' and have not seen any of the people wearing wolf skins dancing around. I just don't think that the Canada of today was represented. I have never seen a Mountie either. But yet they are a symbol of Canada as well. Let's look at the musical performers too.....Bryan Adams?? KD Lang?? Come on....this isn't the 80's. As for the newer talent....Nelly Furtado looked horrible. Was that super skin tight dress appropriate?
Now....let's talk about Wayne Gretzky. That whole thing with him in the back of the truck driving around with the torch was chhhheeeeeeeeeeezzzzzy. Wayne Gretzky is a great Canadian but how about moving forward and using say.....Sidney Crosby!? I just think that the Opening Ceremonies could have been better and really should have showcased an updated Canada.
Now for the dark cloud over the Olympics. The death of the Georgian luger. I watched the video of the crash and right away, a moron could have looked at the final corner and thought "Hmm, should probably have some protection from those steel posts.." Who designed that course?? In the quest for world record speeds, a young man died. Here's the link to the horrible crash:

Hopefully the rest of the Games will be more joyous.
Go Canada Go!!
