Well, I was pretty pissed off last night during my workout. I go up to the YMCA with my beautiful family and had a terrible start. My daughter comes over to me....and says some teenage boy was spitting on the floor. Now she has finished her weightlifting program and has every right to be in the gym like everyone else. Some piece of work kid (hat on sideways and not giving a shit) was rudely jumping into machines and spitting on the floor. If that is standard practice at home then he must live in an old trailer park. *sorry to those who live in a nice trailer park* I quickly walked over to him (I was just doing some overhead presses and plate raises so my shoulders looked pretty jacked) and said "Hey, you mind not spitting on the floor. It's disgusting. Not your floor." He agreed and apologized then left rather quickly and went to the treadmills.
Now, I'm happy he took it like a man and apologized but what kind of kid grows up spitting on public floors where people lay down and work out or whatever. I grew up and was taught to respect other people, their property etc. I had class as a kid and knew right from wrong, cleanliness from filth and that the gym was MECCA!!!! What were this kid's parents teaching him? Hmmm....probably not manners. Now I know that parents can only do so much and that the child or in this case 'young punk' have to accept responsibility themselves. I, being a parent understand that the bottom line is.....kids will do what they ultimately want to do. But what if things were a little different? Say 25 years ago when you could spank your child. Would this kid do the same thing? Who knows.
The one thing I keep thinking after seeing some punk like that.... Damn, my daughter is a good kid. She always uses her manners in public, great student, very thankful for what she has and is very compassionate for the less fortunate. God bless her.
Now for my workout last night. It was my scheduled 'assistance work' for my overhead press.
So I hit a strict press variation, plate raises, abs (I did some hanging leg raises) and a brutal, sick, mental and physical killer of an exercise...........YTWL's.........WOW. I could only use 5lbs in each hand and I had to get my daughter to count for me because after a few reps I couldn't keep it straight. For an 'assistance' workout, it was a little difficult. Man....I am expecting big things at the end of this program.
I was talking with a buddy from work and he is a HUGE fan of Survivorman...Les Stroud. After many months and months of hearing about Les while we were unloading a trailer by hand, I decided to watch this so-called Survivorman. I'm usually not a big fan of Canadian television (Little Mosque on the Prairie....come on! What happened to the good shows like the original Degrassi Street or The Littlest Hobo?!?!) but Survivorman was different. This guy gets dropped off in the middle of nowhere and has to survive by himself! He teaches you survival tactics with objects like your underwear elastic, camera lens, a pen...ANYTHING!!! He is an updated Canadian MacGyver!! I am impressed and could probably even call myself a fan of Les Stroud's show -- Survivorman.
