So I won't write about my last few training sessions just before Christmas......pretty much just took it easy after the UFGyms.com Push/Pull. I was quite happy hitting a 355lbs bench press which is a PR. Less than 3 months of bench press training made it even better. I tied a previous personal record in the deadlift with 545lbs. Not so great but at a lighter bodyweight made it satisfying.........until the next day anyways.
I tossed around some ideas about the deadlift program I was going to tackle next. 531 works for everything else but it didn't do much for my deadlift. I was gearing up for the Magnusson/Ortmayer routine but switched gears and chose the Coan/Philippi program. Here's how day one went...
Warmed up on the elliptical for 10 mins then used my roller. Hit some light leg extensions and curls to get the blood moving a little more.
Deadlifts- Wearing my new Chuck Taylor's I got under the tree
-worked up to 435lbs x 2 **reset each rep with no belt
345lbs x 3 reps x 8 sets **I worked on pulling this in good form as fast as I could. I used a double overhand grip with no belt
Barbell Shrugs- Using my new set of Fat Gripz I got under the tree as well!
135x12 135x12 185x8 185x6 185x6 185x6 185x6 **My traps can handle much more weight but using the FatGripz killed my grip very quickly. With them on the bar it turns into a 2.25" bar. This will help tremendously for when strongman season comes around.
Side Bends-
70x10 each side 90x10 115x10 115x10
YTWL's-
12lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps
Yesterday was a good training session. I am sore from head to toe. I even went outside at 7pm last night and did some sprint intervals and agility drills. I must have looked like a drunk rhino.
Can't wait to try out my new Olympic Weightlifting shoes on Thursday for squats!! Before that though I have some overhead work on Wednesday.
